Mehdi Hosseini

Seyed Mehdi Hosseini Bami (born July 1979, Persia, Tehran, Persian: سید مهدی حسینی بمی) is a contemporary Persian composer and Musicologist.

Biography

Hosseini received his Masters degree and Doctor of Music degree (DMA) in Composition from Saint Petersburg State Conservatory,[1] named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov.[2] His major teachers include [3] Farhad Fakhreddini, Prof. Alexander Minatsakanian, Prof. Nigel Osborne and Prof. Sergei Slonimsky in composition, and Professor Tatiana Bershadskaya in Musicology. His early musical experiences included from 1998–2001, where he studying music theory, Persian music and composition with Farhad Fakhreddini [4] in Tehran. Hosseini then entered the Saint-Petersburg State Conservatory in 2001 where he under the guidance of Prof. Tatiana Bershtadskaya studied musicology and composition with Prof. Minatsakanian and continued postgraduate course with the composer Sergei Slonimsky. Mehdi Hosseini completed a composition course from the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna in 2007 during the summer courses at Mürzzuschlag, Austria where he studied with Nigel Osborne.[5]

Hosseini’s compositions [6] include works for large orchestra, chamber orchestra, voice, solo piano and various ensembles and has been performed and recorded by the Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra and the Saint-Petersburg State Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.[7] He was the focus of attention in Russia as a composer.[8] and his works are performed during such festivals as St. Petersburg Musical Spring, Contemporary East and West, Contemporary Past [9][10][11], A Reverse Perspective,[12] Trajectories of Petersburg Avant-Garde, Sound Ways.[13]

In 2010 Mehdi Hosseini founded the "Saint-Petersburg Contemporary Music Center" [14] for new music, which engages an ongoing program of development work to promote new Russian music at home and abroad.
